TAQDEER AWARD EVALUATION BEGINS FOR THIRD EDITION
90 lead assessors performing evaluation process for third edition
Major General Obaid: World’s first-of-its kind points-based reward system recognises excellence in labour welfare practices
Dubai, September 25, 2018: The management of Taqdeer, the world’s first-of-its-kind points-based reward system to recognise excellence in labour welfare practices and promotion of international best practices in labour welfare, has set in motion the process for assessment of participating companies in the emirate of Dubai for the third edition of the award.
The companies are from across the construction sector, free zones and factories. Taqdeer Award had been launched under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council.
In its second edition, companies in construction sector, factories and free zones in Dubai were brought under its purview, raising the number of workers targeted by the award to one million. The points based reward system evaluates companies based on essential fundamentals such as labour policies, occupational health; cultural and work environment factors such as communication, creativity and innovation, rules and regulations; as well as results based on labour perceptions and performance indicators.
Companies which get four and five-star rating are given priority in awarding government projects.
Major General Obaid Muhair Bin Suroor, Chairman of Taqdeer Award, who is also the Deputy Director General of General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs-Dubai (GDRFA-Dubai), praised the efforts of the assessors who are an integral part of the success of the award and the achievement of its objectives.
He expressed his deep appreciation to the companies that are competing for this prestigious award and pointed out this shows their keenness to establish high standards in workers’ care practices, which will enhance their reputation locally and internationally, and strengthen relations with their workers.
Since its launch in 2016, the award witnessed many achievements. It is the first time in the UAE that the entire evaluation process will be conducted online. Also, the interest in the third edition is much higher than last year.
The award reflects Dubai’s serious efforts in the area of enhancing employer-employee relationship while setting international benchmarks in labour welfare practices.
Evaluation of applications is to be done in two stages. The first is the evaluations of submission through the award’s website. The second phase – if necessary – entails field visits to ensure the accuracy of the information contained in the application. The winning companies will be awarded a rating of one to five stars. The winners of the 5 or 4 star rating will receive special recognition and recognition at the awards ceremony attended by a host of senior officials from within and outside the country.
